Stock reservations and availability

Distinguish physical stock from quantities already committed to sales, manufacturing and transfer workflows before promising or consuming the same goods again.

A more useful answer than on hand

A product can be in the warehouse and already belong to another order's plan. Reservations connect demand to its source, including confirmed sales orders and released manufacturing work. Available quantities account for active commitments, helping sales and warehouse teams avoid treating every unit on the shelf as free for the next request.

Let the source workflow maintain the allocation

Reservations are maintained by the system, not separate documents that users must manually recreate after every shipment or material issue. Consumption reduces the remaining demand and cancellations retract the appropriate commitments. Supported allocation controls allow intentional unallocation without a later synchronization silently restoring that choice. Stock details put the quantities in the selected warehouse and unit context.

What to know before you start

Availability is rechecked when stock-affecting actions are saved. A preview is not a permanent promise, and manually unallocating stock does not cancel the commercial order.

Practical questions

Do users create reservation records themselves?

No. Source workflows maintain them. Operators use the available allocation controls on the relevant order.

Are incoming purchase orders already available stock?

No. Expected supply and physical on-hand stock are different quantities. Receiving records the actual arrival.
