Serial number tracking

Identify individual stock units with serial numbers and preserve that identity through warehouse work, shipments and supported return workflows.

Follow a unit, not just a quantity

Serial tracking is useful when one physical unit must be distinguished from another of the same product. The serial accompanies the warehouse and location context used by stock operations. Operators select the appropriate identity rather than recording an anonymous quantity, helping preserve the link between the goods handled and their transaction history.

Support investigation after the sale

Saved shipments and their source lines provide evidence for subsequent RMA and warranty work. Keeping serial information at the stock boundary is more useful than adding a number to a customer note after dispatch. Inventory reporting can also distinguish serial-related movements, subject to the available data and selected report scope.

What to know before you start

Serial tracking is an inventory capability, not an automatic warranty-entitlement decision. Return approval, condition and replacement choices remain explicit business decisions.

Practical questions

Do serial numbers replace product codes?

No. The product code identifies the catalogue item; the serial distinguishes a particular physical unit of that item.

Can serial-tracked goods be returned?

Use the supported RMA workflow and the customer's original shipment evidence, with the required stock-tracking checks.
